Possible motives of Japanese assassin

FOCUS - Tetsuya Yamagami, 42, a former member of the Japanese army, would have liked to have originally targeted a member of the Moon sect, according to local media.

The man does not seem to have premeditated his act. This is at least what a Japanese political columnist presumes, the day after the assassination of Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan, during a public meeting in Nara, Friday July 8. Shinzo Abe was originally scheduled to hold his political rally in another prefecture, when his party officials changed the venue on the eve of the event. "This last-minute change in schedule shows that the killer did not premeditate his act," wrote editor, Takao Toshikawa. Other local media claim that the man originally wanted to murder an executive of the Moon sect, whose headquarters were located a few steps from the crime scene.
