Requiem for Carl Duke of Württemberg in Altshausen (video and text)
Around 800 invited guests said goodbye to Carl Duke of
Württemberg at a funeral service in Altshausen (Ravensburg district) on
Saturday. The Catholic Requiem was celebrated
by Bishop Gebhard Fürst of Rottenburg. Among other things, he paid tribute to
the charitable commitment of the deceased. Around 800 invited guests came to the funeral
ceremonies on Saturday, including Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister, Winfried
Kretschmann (Greens), Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Thomas
Strobl (CDU), Health Minister, Manfred Lucha (Greens) and the former Prime
Minister, Erwin Teufel (CDU).
"Carl Duke of Württemberg was simply a strong
personality. He was also extremely
committed to charity", stated Prime Minister, Winfried Kretschmann There
were also numerous members of the Bundestag from the region at the funeral
service, including Benjamin Strasser (FDP), Axel Müller (CDU) and Agnieszka
Brugger (Greens). Many district
administrators and mayors from the Lake Constance-Upper Swabia region also said
goodbye to Carl Duke of Württemberg at the funeral ceremonies. Among others, the Sigmaringion district
administrator, Stefanie Bürkle (CDU), the Ravensburg district administrator,
Harald Sievers (CDU), the Mayor of Ravensburg, Daniel Rapp (CDU), and the Mayor
of Friedrichshafen, Andreas Brand (independent).
Aristocrats were also among the guests. Among others, the Prince of Liechtenstein,
Alois von und zu Liechtenstein, and his father Hans-Adam and Grand Duke Henri
of Luxembourg came to Altshausen. After the funeral service, Carl Duke of
Württemberg was buried with his immediate family in attendance in the family
crypt in the Castle Church. In
Altshausen, relatives, representatives from politics, business, society and
nobility said goodbye to Carl Duke of Württemberg.
Only invited guests had access to the Castle Church during
the funeral ceremonies. The funeral
service was broadcast live on a screen on the market square, directly in front
of the castle. About 250 people followed
the funeral service there.
Funeral procession with the coffin on Friday in Altshausen
The coffin of the deceased, lying on a carriage, was pulled
by four horses from the Marbach Stud through the Altshauser Ried and the local community
to the market square on Friday afternoon. It was accompanied by various music bands and
the Yellow Hussars, a civil guard from Altshausen. There was a minute's
silence. Hundreds of people took part in
the funeral procession. Carl Duke of
Württemberg died on June 7th at the age of 85.
